The Hoyo's Cuisine Story
Hoyo’s Cousine is a woman-owned business that was established in 1980 by Chef Fathia back in our home country of Somalia where our parents owned a small restaurant. However, due to the Somali civil war, we were forced to flee and start over again in the U.S. and we have since re-opened in 2019.
Hoyo’s Cousine takes pride in bringing the flavors of East Africa to the West Coast. We provide our customers a unique global experience many have never had. Many of our recipes were created with the intention of introducing traditional Somali cooking to people who are unfamiliar with it while both gratifying and evoking nostalgia in those who are. Other meals reflect how numerous cultures and ethnicities have had a profound influence on Somalia throughout its history.
The name of our company is what sets us apart. In Somali, Hoyo means mother and the recipes we prepare are authentic because they were passed down from our mother, who was taught by our mother, and so on. These recipes are ethnic and flavorful. It provides a wide range of options for everyone, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
I enjoy my work because I provide a healthy dish made with love and care. I am following my passion for my culture and cooking, and more importantly, working with my client’s budget and bringing unique food on their special day. I meet many individuals from around the world when they request catering for any special occasion. I have a great passion for my service to the community and assisting my customers to achieve their goals by providing fresh, affordable catering service so they focus more on making memories instead of worrying about cooking.

Help kids in need by donating today!
You can make a difference in a child's life by providing a clean and safe place for them to reside. All contributions support an orphanage in Somalia. We are honored to play a role in a child's life. We can provide shelter and clean water to drink. Every year, our company donates 25% of its profits to an orphanage and constructs a water well. Giving back to the community and investing in the future of a child's life is significant to us given the opportunity to do so.
